Why Didn't I think of that?

These are the things that when you see them, you think "genius" and "how simple but awesome." Hopefully I will use them in the future.

Toilet paper rolls (or paper towel rolls) to store cords! At  the site where I found this, storage glee  they have tons of crazy designs including a kitchen made of drawers.

Just drop a marble in the pan to shape your cupcakes like hearts! Modification: Make them more heart like with balls of tin foil in place of the marble



I Dream of.....a Craft Room

This is what I'm currently working with. It's not so pretty. It's a tiny piece of my spare bedroom.

There are two things about it I like though.

1 is the repurposed cd/dvd storage tower on the right, which works great as a basket holder for my dollar store baskets that contain items such as "things that cut" and "things that are adhesive."

The second is my $3.99 wall pocket, from the childrens section at ikea. Now I'm not a fan of Ikea furniture only because I got a complete bedroom set there for my first rental in college, and each peice preceded to fall apart one by one shortly after the disaster that was assembling it all. But their kids stuff and decor stuff? Awesome.

If you catch that it's a sewing machine on the bottom right under the table, you are correct. It is not something I plan to use again, at least for a very long time. Me and this machine do not get along.

Kid Stuff

Today first a project that I created to capture my daughter's weekly growth, and then one of HER first projects.

During my pregnancy I found this awesome idea to make a photo book with a photo for each week of her first year. I found several versions, with most of them being fancy "computer printed" albums. I wanted this one to look more "homemade" and have my husband help as well. You could also have an older sibling help. So I used the classic medium construction paper, and had my husband HAND WRITE the weeks on the side of each page. To bind the book I used a hole punch and ribbon.

Sad that stores no longer sell the traditional "paint with water" books that I remember having as a child, I used the classic construction paper medium again, and handed P a paint brush dipped in water. (She is still at an age where I need to dip the brush in water for her, otherwise she will drink and/or spill the water).

Old Projects Part II

Redskins Tutu (Currently being worn by a piggy bank)

So I saw some awesome tutu's at a store in SC (Clemson Ones) for little girls and absolutely fell in love with them. They had ribbons and sparkles (the picture below is not really good, but note I took the traditional tulle and also added "ribbons and sparkle"). The one at the store was $40. I was not going to pay that much for a tutu P would wear 3-5 times so I set out to find a way to make one, and I did.

Remember the vinyl stickers I promised?

Clothesline Photo Ceiling Trim

Just nail a ribbon every 3-5 feet along the wall, and use clothespins (you should probably decorate the clothespins first) to add a photo border to any room.

Touches of color

I spray painted the bookcase (once purple) that I used as a child to match my daughter's pink and green room. I also bought white shelves at Ikea ($3 each as opposed to $12 pink ones) and spray painted them pink. I added little green dragonfly accents to the windows using crayola window markers, and a simple stencil that had come with another kid related item I had purchased along the way.
